On January 2nd, 2012 the Italian flag was raised over Wall Street’s iconic “Charging Bull” statue to honor the first Italian New Yorker, who arrived at Bowling Green on June 2nd, 1635. The statue itself was designed by Italian immigrant Arturo di Modica and has become both a symbol of a prosperous financial market and a celebration of the Italian-American heritage. Civil Rights activist and Alabama native Scott Douglas, of Greater Birmingham Ministries, discussed the immigration rights movement with Stephen Colbert last night, and drew parallels to the civil rights movement. “Martin Luther King has said that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere and HB 56 is a threat to me and all Americans.”
